Softball Recap: Hatch Valley Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hatch Valley can now relate to. They fell just short of the Navajo Prep Eagles by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday.

Alaya Martinez was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Reyes, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Hatch Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Navajo Prep, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-5.

Hatch Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Navajo Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 18-0 loss against West Las Vegas on the 7th.
