Baseball Recap: Appomattox County Triumphs

Appomattox County came out on top against William Campbell on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Raiders walked away with a 7-2 win over the Generals. That's more bragging rights for the Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Owen Chavis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Ferguson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. R J Martin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Appomattox County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for William Campbell, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Appomattox County will venture away from home to square off against Randolph-Henry at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Statesmen will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for William Campbell, they will head out to face off against Dan River at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
