Baseball Recap: Wood-Ridge Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wood-Ridge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Teaneck Highwaymen 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since April 13, 2024.

Lucas Mendoza was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Wood-Ridge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jared Montoya, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Wood-Ridge pushed their record up to 13-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Teaneck, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Coincidentally, Wood-Ridge and Teaneck will both be playing Dwight-Englewood the next time they take the field. The Highwaymen will host the Bulldogs at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, while the Blue Devils will host them on Saturday.
