Basketball Game Preview: Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs vs. Phoenix Christian Cougars

The Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs will take on the Phoenix Christian Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Rancho Solano Prep's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Tuesday, when they got past Anthem Prep's usually-dominant defense. Rancho Solano Prep simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Anthem Prep 58-15. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 32 points or more this season.

Nenah Brown was her usual excellent self, going 10 for 15 on her way to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Payne, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals.

Rancho Solano Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Phoenix Christian). They blew past Tanque Verde, posting an 80-5 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Rancho Solano Prep pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Phoenix Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Rancho Solano Prep was taken down by Phoenix Christian 71-8 in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. Can Rancho Solano Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
