Basketball Recap: Lanier Has No Trouble Against Johns Creek

Lanier won the last time they faced Johns Creek and things went their way on Monday too. The Lanier Longhorns were the clear victor by a 74-49 margin over the Johns Creek Gladiators. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Gladiators are ranked 410th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Johns Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Landeck, who posted 21 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. That was a full 42.9% of Johns Creek's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Savannah Jenkins was another key player, shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine boards.

Lanier's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Johns Creek, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-17.

Lanier won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Milton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Milton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games. As for Johns Creek, they will host Meadowcreek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
