Football Recap: Minersville Skates Past Shenandoah Valley with Ease

Minersville won the last time they faced Shenandoah Valley and things went their way on Friday too. The Battlin' Miners breezed past the Blue Devils to the tune of 49-6. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Battlin' Miners just coasted through the last quarter.

Minersville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paiten Lapoint led the charge by picking up 55 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. What's more, Lapoint posted two receiving touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dante Carr, who threw for 113 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.

Minersville's run defense was locked in: Shenandoah Valley could only muster 1.9 yards per carry. While three picked up at least three total tackles, Carr stood above the rest. He threw for 113 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. Minersville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.4.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Minersville, racking up 17 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lapoint, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.

Minersville has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points this season. As for Shenandoah Valley, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
