Smiths Station won the last time they faced Russell County and things went their way on Friday too. The Smiths Station Panthers enjoyed a cozy 63-49 victory over the Russell County Warriors. The Panthers' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Smiths Station got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chantell Barnes out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Malaya Crowell, who went 8 of 10 on her way to 17 points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Russell County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mckenzie Word went 9 of 20 on her way to 26 points and three steals. That was a full 53.1% of Russell County's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camyra Toney, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Smiths Station's record now sits at 5-0. As for Russell County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-6.

Smiths Station didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-27 defeat against Hardaway on the 7th. As for Russell County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 70-57 win against Columbus on the 10th.
