Baseball Recap: South Sumter Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

With a playoff win on the line, South Sumter rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Astronaut War Eagles with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Bryson Mitchell looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Gabe Sabilona was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Malakhi Boone was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

South Sumter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Astronaut only posted a batting average of .273.

The win (which was South Sumter's ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Astronaut, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Coming up, South Sumter will welcome Umatilla at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 3.4, the Bulldogs 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Astronaut does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
