Softball Game Preview: Thomaston Bears vs. Watertown Warriors

The Thomaston Bears will head out to face off against the Watertown Warriors at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Thomaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Thomaston took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Housatonic by a score of 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Mountaineers: they've now won nine in a row.

Sloan Walmsley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Patchell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Aylin Lahey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Watertown lost 9-1 to St. Paul Catholic on Sunday.

Watertown now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Thomaston, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Thomaston might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Watertown when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
