Basketball Recap: Verrado Takes a Loss

Verrado was the 41-40 winner over Buckeye when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Verrado Vipers were dealt a 65-33 defeat at the hands of the Buckeye Hawks on Tuesday. The loss leaves the Vipers without a win on the season.

Zoe Hall and Gisele Wilkinson certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hall posted nine points and six boards, while Wilkinson had a point. Hall continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Buckeye's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amayah Leyva, who earned 12 points and seven steals. Leyva has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mj Wiggins, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Verrado's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Buckeye, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Verrado will face off against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Verrado is facing Centennial at the right time seeing as Centennial is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Buckeye, they will challenge Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buckeye is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
