Volleyball Recap: Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles vs. El Cerrito Gauchos
After flying high against Freedom last Thursday, Clayton Valley Charter came back down to earth. The Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles fell 3-1 to the El Cerrito Gauchos on Wednesday. While the Ugly Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Gauchos 25-18 in the first set.
Clayton Valley Charter started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17.
Aluugh Fitial paced Clayton Valley Charter's offense, picking up ten kills. Fitial got some help from Jeremy Oviedo and his 13 assists. Finally, Luigi Zabala and Ty McConnell kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.
Austin Lowe was the offensive standout of the contest as he had 13 assists and nine digs. That's the most digs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Clayton Valley Charter's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Clayton Valley Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Pitman on the 1st. As for El Cerrito, they have also already played their next game, a 2-1 win against The Bay School on the 1st.
