York and Poquoson are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Falcons will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Islanders at 4:30 p.m. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, York came up short against New Kent and fell 7-2. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly five runs.
Leslee Maldonado was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Miah Mosquera-Armstead also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Poquoson made easy work of Jamestown on Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Islanders, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Natalie Klochak tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Brooklyn Mason was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Laney, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one triple.
Poquoson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jamestown only posted an OBP of .300.
York's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Poquoson, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. York has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Poquoson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
York couldn't quite finish off Poquoson when the teams last played back in March and fell 9-7. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
