Softball Recap: Bethlehem Takes Down Vernon in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bethlehem walked away with it. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Vernon Yellowjackets on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the Wildcats' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Mackenzie Saporito spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abigale Brannon, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Bre Kimble, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Bethlehem's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. As for Vernon, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-16.

Coming up, Bethlehem will take on Holmes County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
