Basketball Recap: Santa Maria Piles Up the Points Against Freer

Santa Maria won the last time they faced Freer and things went their way on Thursday too. The Santa Maria Cougars blew past the Freer Buckaroos, posting a 66-35 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Freer lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ayden Ramirez, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Ramirez has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dehondre Hayes, who put up eight points along with six assists and five boards.

Santa Maria has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Freer, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-12 record.

Coincidentally, Santa Maria and Freer will both be playing Ben Bolt the next time they take the court. Freer will host Ben Bolt at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Santa Maria will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
