Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Trinidad's Fourth in Last Five Outings

If Sangre de Cristo wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Trinidad, they should've done a better job of containing Maya Morales. The Trinidad Miners blew past the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds 47-24 on Friday for which the team can thank Morales, who on her way to 15 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Sangre de Cristo's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaydra Cordova, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylee Freel, who scored seven points.

Trinidad is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 9.6 assists in those games compared to only 5.36 in the others. Sangre de Cristo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Trinidad does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sangre de Cristo, they will challenge Moffat at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
