Baseball Recap: Fountain-Fort Carson Takes a Loss

Fountain-Fort Carson extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They fell 6-2 to the Vista Ridge Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on Tuesday.

Joseph Baumbach was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Fountain-Fort Carson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Illert, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Illert is becoming a predictor of the Trojans' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

As for Vista Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Vista Ridge's side, Jacob Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nelson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

Fountain-Fort Carson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 16-0 loss against Pine Creek on the 22nd. As for Vista Ridge, they have also already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Doherty on the 22nd.
