Recap: Genesis Prep Panthers vs. Candlelight Christian Academy Flames
The Genesis Prep Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 63-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Candlelight Christian Academy. Genesis Prep lost against Candlelight Christian Academy in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 62-31 score last time.
Candlelight Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rah'Quez Shepard, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Shepard also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Alejandro Hernandez was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Genesis Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Candlelight Christian Academy, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Genesis Prep will square off against Florida College Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Candlelight Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Winter Haven Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
