Basketball Recap: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Beats Washington School for the Deaf for Their Fourth Straight Victory

If Washington School for the Deaf wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Phoenix Day School for the Deaf, they should've done a better job of containing Donovan Etheridge. The Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Roadrunners came out on top in a nail-biter against the Washington School for the Deaf Terriers on Saturday, sneaking past 40-37 thanks in part to Etheridge, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. What's more, he also racked up five steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2023.

Washington School for the Deaf lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nathan Yerkes, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Yerkes' morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. La'Juan Malone was another key player, putting up nine points and six steals.

The win (which was Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-14. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to offensive boards: they averaged an imposing 8.2 offensive rebounds in those games compared to only 8.2 in the others. As for Washington School for the Deaf, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf has already played their next match, a 52-40 victory against Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind on the 1st. As for Washington School for the Deaf, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-17 win against Utah School for the Deaf & Blind on the 1st.
