Preview: New Brighton Lions vs. Ellwood City Wolverine
New Brighton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Ellwood City Wolverine at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, New Brighton beat Western Beaver 49-43.
Meanwhile, even though Serra Catholic scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, Ellwood City still came out on top. Ellwood City walked away with a 71-59 win over Serra Catholic. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Ellwood City has managed all season.
Joseph Roth continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 29 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists. The match was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colten Crizer, who scored 16 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
The victory got New Brighton back to even at 2-2. As for Ellwood City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
New Brighton came up short against Ellwood City in their previous meeting back in January, falling 63-51. Can New Brighton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
