Basketball Recap: Carlos Ferguson and Xavier Tillman Secure Win for Canyon Springs

Canyon Springs won the last time they faced Southeast Career Tech and things went their way on Monday too. The Canyon Springs Pioneers rang in the new year with a 45-38 win over the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners.

Leading Canyon Springs to victory were Xavier Tillman and Carlos Ferguson. Tillman dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, while Ferguson posted eight points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Carter, who earned eight points.

Canyon Springs was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Southeast Career Tech saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ricardo Rodriguez put up 14 points. The dominant performance gave Rodriguez a new career-high in points.

Canyon Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for Southeast Career Tech, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Silverado at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon Springs is facing Silverado at the right time seeing as Silverado is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Southeast Career Tech, they are taking a road trip to face off against Rancho at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
