Covington and Munford are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Chargers will venture away from home to face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Covington didn't have quite enough to beat Brighton and fell 8-7. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Bella Crook was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Crook was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Crook wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kinslee Hamm, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Lyv Cromwell was another, scoring a run and stealing a base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Munford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Millington Central with a sharp 10-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Cougars have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Harper Seiler was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Griffin, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Munford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millington Central only managed three hits.
Munford now has a winning record of 9-8-1. As for Covington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Munford struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington couldn't quite get it done against Munford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 13-10. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
