Baseball Recap: Crown Point Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Crown Point waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Portage Indians. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Linus Chariton tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Billy Chidsey, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Sean Dunlap was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Crown Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage only posted an OBP of .263.

Crown Point's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Portage, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5-1.

Coming up, Crown Point will challenge Lowell at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Portage, they will face off against Andrean at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 4.1, the Fighting 59ers 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
