Basketball Recap: Merrillville Comes Up Short

Merrillville lost against East Chicago Central back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Merrillville Pirates fell 75-65 to the East Chicago Central Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Cardinals are ranked 60th).

East Chicago Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Yamauree Wallace, who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominique Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Merrillville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for East Chicago Central, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Merrillville and New Haven will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on December 28th. As for East Chicago Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-55 loss against Whitney Young on the 21st.
