Platte Valley is 7-2 against Liberty Common since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Platte Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Platte Valley fell victim to Resurrection Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 8-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Broncos were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Liberty Common had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Valley a 7-0 shutout on Monday.
Roman Galindo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Galindo was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Owen Hood was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Liberty Common: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-7 otherwise. Bryson Weibler was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base.
Liberty Common kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Platte Valley's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-5. As for Liberty Common, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Platte Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Liberty Common struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Platte Valley's way against Liberty Common in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Platte Valley made off with a 16-0 win. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
