Softball Recap: Smyrna Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Stewarts Creek

Smyrna faced Stewarts Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs lost 12-3 to the Red Hawks. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bulldogs, who until this contest were averaging 3.22 runs allowed.

Talia Paredes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Smyrna's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for Stewarts Creek, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-5-1.

Looking ahead, Smyrna will challenge Cookeville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stewarts Creek, they will head out to face off against Nolensville at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Hawks 2.6, the Knights 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
