Football Recap: Aspen Comes Up Short

Aspen extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-3. They took a blow against the Kent Denver Sun Devils, falling 49-19. The Skiers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sun Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Aspen still got an impressive performance from Dylan Mika, who rushed for 196 yards and one touchdown. Mika's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 115 rushing yards dating back to last season.

As for Kent Denver, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. That looming 49-19 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Yianni Balafas produced another solid effort throwing for 263 yards and one TD, while also rushing for 41 yards and one score.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aspen will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Kent Denver, they will square off against Hinkley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Sun Devils will be up against the Thunder's rather soft defense (which has allowed 67.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
