Softball Recap: Evangel Christian Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Evangel Christian nor Ezekiel Academy made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Lightning narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Knights 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Lightning: when they faced off against the Knights back in April, they had to take a 8-3 defeat.

Ella Ruth Smith spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Makayla Cranford, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lilli Whitfield, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Evangel Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. As for Ezekiel Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 30-7 record.

Evangel Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Ezekiel Academy has already played their next contest (against Southern Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
