Basketball Recap: Calvert Comes Up Short

Calvert lost against Huntingtown back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Calvert Cavaliers fell 55-43 to the Huntingtown Hurricanes.

Despite the loss, Calvert still got an impressive performance from Brooke Kidwell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Kidwell's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amani Welch, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 12 points.

Huntingtown was led to victory by Eva Powell and Sofia Hoetzlein-Sirman. Powell dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards, while Hoetzlein-Sirman posted eight points in addition to eight assists and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Hoetzlein-Sirman a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Graham, who put up eight points and eight boards.

Calvert's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2. As for Huntingtown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Calvert didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-40 win against Chopticon on the 16th. As for Huntingtown, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-29 victory against Lackey on the 16th.
