Softball Recap: Cumberland County Jets vs. Oneida Indians
Cumberland County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Oneida Indians on Tuesday as Cumberland County made off with an 11-2 victory. Considering the Jets' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Olivia Torrelli was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Emily Shelton was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Marly Elliott was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
Cumberland County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oneida only posted an OBP of .226.
Cumberland County's record now sits at 2-5. As for Oneida, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland County will take on White County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oneida, they will challenge Wartburg Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oneida is facing Wartburg Central at the right time seeing as Wartburg Central is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
