Softball Recap: El Cerrito Wins Going Away Against Vallejo

El Cerrito won the last time they faced Vallejo and things went their way on Friday too. The Gauchos put the hurt on the Redhawks with a sharp 23-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gauchos, who have now won 14 games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Natalia Gawlikowski and Courtney Miles made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Gawlikowski tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Miles struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Gawlikowski has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Gawlikowski went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Miles went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Gawlikowski has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, El Cerrito got a massive performance out of Arlie Tatum, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles. What's more, Tatum posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Martinez-Rojas, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.

El Cerrito always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vallejo only posted an OBP of .167.

The win made it two in a row for El Cerrito and bumps their season record up to 15-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-14-1 Bethel and 5-7-1 Vallejo. As for Vallejo, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-1.

Looking ahead, El Cerrito will host Richmond at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gauchos are facing the Oilers at the right time seeing as the Oilers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Vallejo, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-4 victory against Bethel on the 28th.
