Softball Recap: Martin County Cardinals vs. Paintsville Tigers
Martin County extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They came up short against the Paintsville Tigers, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 two weeks ago.
As for Paintsville, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-12. Considering they have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Paintsville's part, Molly Music made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Music has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendra Runyon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kira Ratliff was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martin County will venture away from home to challenge Johnson Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Paintsville, they will face off against Floyd Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
