Rio Mesa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Santa Barbara, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Rio Mesa Spartans blew past the Santa Barbara Dons 7-1 on Friday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Rob Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Leo Lujan was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Alec Fontyn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Rio Mesa moved to 2-8-1 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Santa Barbara, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1-1 and their overall record down to 6-3-1.

Santa Barbara's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Oxnard's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
