Basketball Recap: Shenandoah Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Caldwell

After losing to Caldwell the last time they met, Shenandoah decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Shenandoah Zeps secured a 51-47 W over the Caldwell Redskins on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Zeps' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while the Redskins are ranked 212th).

Despite the loss, Caldwell still got an impressive performance from Carter Wheeldin, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 boards. Wheeldin has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 21 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Crock, who posted ten points and three steals.

Shenandoah's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9. As for Caldwell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-2.

Shenandoah didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-39 defeat against Buckeye Trail on the 29th. As for Caldwell, they will square off against Monroe Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Monroe Central has won four straight at home, while Caldwell won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
