Recap: Shadow Mountain Matadors vs. Combs Coyotes
This season hasn't been kind to the Shadow Mountain Matadors, who are still winless after their sixth contest. They were the victim of a tough 49-27 defeat at the hands of Combs on Monday. Shadow Mountain lost against Combs in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 1-0 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Shadow Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Cheyenne Hanna scored nine points along with seven steals. Hanna hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Shadow Mountain's loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.9 points per game. As for Combs, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.
Shadow Mountain will head out on the road to face off against Arizona College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Combs won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Marcos de Niza at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th. Marcos de Niza comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
