League recap: Globe climbs in standings with win

Globe was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in IV Section II. The Tigers defeated Safford 38-7 earlier in the week.

Florence took down Miami 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nick Brown ran for 200 yards in the win.

David Gesicki threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns. He was 21-33 with one interceptions.

Matt Haggerty made the biggest impact on defense this week as Seton Catholic defeated Tempe. The 6-foot-0 senior grabbed three interceptions.

Leroy Valentine was the best wideout in the league this week as Combs lost to Apache Junction. Valentine racked up 10 receptions for 146 yards. Nathan Lampa helped Combs' passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.

Johnny Renteria was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 32 carries, he ran for 280 yards as Globe lost to the Prospectors. Joe Burk also contributed to the rushing game with 70 yards on the ground.

6-foot-2 quarterback Nick Prueher of Combs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1563. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Gophers' Brown has rushed for 1199 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Haggerty. The Seton Catholic star has 42 catches for 699 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Empire takes on Walden Grove. The Ravens are in fourth place, while Walden Grove is in fifth place.

Al Ocampo's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,595 from 10,112. The advance stemmed from a 38-7 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
