Preview: East Tech Scarabs vs. Rhodes Rams
The East Tech Scarabs will take on the Rhodes Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but East Tech ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 73-62 win over Cleveland Central Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
George Thomas was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Chris Simon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Rhodes put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on John F. Kennedy with a sharp 63-40 victory. 63 seems to be a good number for Rhodes as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
East Tech pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.4 points per game. As for Rhodes, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.
East Tech and Rhodes were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but East Tech came up empty-handed after a 53-52 defeat. Can East Tech avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
