Basketball Recap: Assumption Falls Short of Sacred Heart in the Playoffs

Assumption and Sacred Heart squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Assumption had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to the Sacred Heart Valkyries. The Rockets' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Assumption lost, don't look at Bailee Duck. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and three steals. What's more, Duck also posted an 80% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Se'Rae Palmer, who had six points along with five assists and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sacred Heart to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bri Wilkins, who put up nine points and seven boards. Amirah 'Tootie' Jordan was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Assumption's loss dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Sacred Heart, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 30-3.

Assumption does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sacred Heart, they will take on DuPont Manual in a tournament on Saturday. One thing working in DuPont Manual's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.
