Baseball Recap: Falkner Takes a Loss

Falkner fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pine Grove on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 10-9. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 last Tuesday.

Gavin Wooley was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. Wooley was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, John Lumpkin led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson Jordan, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Falkner has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Pine Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Falkner will take on Belmont at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Pine Grove, they will face off against Booneville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
