Baseball Recap: Miramonte Wins Going Away Against Concord

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Miramonte and Concord had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Matadors were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Bears on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Matadors in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won six in a row.

Casey Yung and Ian Hughes made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Yung didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hughes tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yung also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Miramonte is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-15 otherwise. At bat, Yung got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Hughes got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two runs gave Yung a new career-high.

In other batting news, Preston Rguem and Tanner Strand did most of the damage at the plate: Rguem went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Strand went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Strand a new career-high.

Miramonte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord only posted a batting average of .160.

Miramonte's record now sits at 7-15. As for Concord, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Miramonte will square off against Las Lomas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Concord, they will face off against Mt. Diablo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
