Softball Recap: Tohopekaliga Has No Trouble Against Colonial

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Harmony, Tohopekaliga was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Colonial Grenadiers with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Maria Santiago made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jessilyn Diaz and Anijah Limones did most of the damage at the plate: Diaz went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Limones went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That double marked the first that Diaz has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jessalyn Morales, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Tohopekaliga now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Colonial, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tohopekaliga will venture away from home to take on Cypress Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Colonial, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hagerty at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grenadiers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
