Basketball Game Preview: Jay County Patriots vs. New Castle Trojans

The Jay County Patriots will take on the New Castle Trojans in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jay County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Jay County will head into Tuesday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 36-point drubbing they dealt Blackford on Tuesday. Jay County claimed a resounding 57-21 win over Blackford. The game marked the Patriots' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Meanwhile, New Castle had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 61-42 win over Centerville on Tuesday.

New Castle found their leader in sophomore Piper Arthur, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Carlee Lanzer, who earned 15 points.

The victory got Jay County back to even at 5-5. As for New Castle, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-8.

Everything came up roses for Jay County against New Castle in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 63-24 victory. In that contest, Jay County amassed a halftime lead of 36-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
