Softball Recap: Sequoia Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Sequoia's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They blew past the Notre Dame Regents 17-11. The victory was some much needed relief for the Ravens as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Nisha Mehta and Jamie Elkington did most of the damage at the plate: Mehta fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4, while Elkington fired off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave Elkington a new career-high. Charlie Siegler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Sequoia lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sequoia's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Notre Dame, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.

Sequoia and Notre Dame could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Ravens (ranked 619th) will meet Burlingame (ranked 185th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Notre Dame will square off against Menlo-Atherton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (502 vs. 213).
