Preview: Cocoa Beach Minutemen vs. Edgewood Red Wolves
After five games on the road, Cocoa Beach is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Edgewood Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Cocoa Beach's strategy against Pineapple Cove Classical Academy on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cocoa Beach blew Pineapple Cove Classical Academy out of the water with a 51-19 final score. That 32 points margin sets a new team best for Cocoa Beach this season.
Cocoa Beach's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kendra Weth, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weth has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Cordis, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Edgewood was able to grind out a solid victory over Satellite on Tuesday, taking the game 44-34. The win was just what Edgewood needed coming off of a 59-32 loss in their prior matchup.
Edgewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophia Calero led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Shelby Preble, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Cocoa Beach's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10. As for Edgewood, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home.
Cocoa Beach took a serious blow against Edgewood in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 66-32. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Edgewood's Alaina Preble, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Now that Cocoa Beach knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
