Softball Game Preview: New Smyrna Beach Barracudas vs. Bishop Moore Hornets

The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas will head out to take on the Bishop Moore Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

New Smyrna Beach headed into their last match having not scored more than two runs for seven straight, but Seabreeze let them put that streak behind them. The Barracudas' pitcher stepped up to hand the Sandcrabs a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Barracudas have beaten the Sandcrabs the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Sandcrabs has come to flipping the script.

Brooke Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Valerie Hausknedht was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaclyn Betti, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

New Smyrna Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bishop Moore played against Edgewater on Tuesday and won via forfeit.

The win made it two in a row for Bishop Moore and bumps their season record up to 8-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for New Smyrna Beach, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-10.

New Smyrna Beach might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Bishop Moore when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Barracudas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
