Football Game Preview: Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy Phoenix vs. Chatham Central Bears

For the second straight game, Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy will face off against Chatham Central. The Phoenix will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Thursday, Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Chatham Central, taking the game 20-7.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy found their leader in freshman Jamari Wilson, who rushed for 180 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 230 yards and one TD while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Wilson also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Tim Smith was in the mix too, providing Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy with one score.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 82.9 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 225.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Wilson and Carl Richburg. Richburg is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy received some extra help from Smith, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. As for Chatham Central, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
