Baseball Recap: Umatilla Victorious

Umatilla won the last time they faced Pilot Rock and things went their way on Friday too. The Vikings came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 5-2.

Carter Griggs made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Griggs was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on David Garcia, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Brian Younger-Morris, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Umatilla's record now sits at 2-0. As for Pilot Rock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Umatilla didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-6 victory against Heppner/Ione on the 24th. As for Pilot Rock, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Elgin at 4:00 p.m. on the 31st. The contest will give the Rockets their first taste of in-conference action this season.
