Baseball Recap: First Baptist Starts Season with Win at Home

First Baptist gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They came out on top against the Bethesda Christian Lions by a score of 6-3.

Preston Gough was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marc Gutierrez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Bethesda Christian dropped their record down to 1-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, First Baptist will head out to challenge Bethesda Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bethesda Christian, they will host Covenant Classical at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
