Recap: West Cabarrus Wolverines vs. Bessemer City Yellow Jackets
On Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, West Cabarrus beat Bessemer City 46-41. Given West Cabarrus' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Bessemer City is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
TYLER COLLINS continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points. The contest was her sixth in a row with at least ten points.
Despite the loss, Bessemer City still got an impressive performance from Tionna Pettus, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Pettus scored a full 58.5% of Bessemer City's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kionna Pettus, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and eight assists.
West Cabarrus has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Bessemer City, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-7 record last season and are now at 3-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Cabarrus and South Iredell will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South Iredell has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. Bessemer City will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Thomas Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Thomas Jefferson will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
