Basketball Game Preview: Olympic Heights Lions vs. Benjamin Buccaneers

The Olympic Heights Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Benjamin Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Olympic Heights has three straight wins, Benjamin has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Monday, Olympic Heights didn't have too much trouble with Dr. Joaquin Garcia as they won 51-32. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Miley Ruggieri was her usual excellent self, putting up 26 points. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Alcalay, who dropped a double-double on ten boards and ten assists.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-17, which was the final score in Benjamin's tilt against Saint Andrew's on Tuesday.

Olympic Heights' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.1 points per game. As for Benjamin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
