Basketball Recap: Monarch Royals vs. The Cambridge School Griffins
The Monarch Royals have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. Their tough 50-29 loss to The Cambridge School on Monday might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Monarch has scored all season.
Monarch's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elliot Macias, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Macias hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Jason Small, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Monarch's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7. As for The Cambridge School, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monarch won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Redhawks at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Mountain Empire will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for The Cambridge School, they will head out on the road to take on the Tritons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
